“I was pleased to have been able to play tonight.

“I was back early. I was back the at the start of June and did a lot of rehab behind the scenes. A lot of credit must go to the phyisos Adam and Tony for the rehab programme they put on for me. The surgeon did a great job as well.

“I felt good in the game, my fitness was ok although I could not last the 90 minutes. To get those minutes under my belt was pleasing. To get my goal was pleasing as well. But very disappointed to lose a goal so late on.

“It does change the complexion of the tie.

“We have to look at the positives. From the first minute to the last, we created a lot of chances and could have scored four or five. We did manage to score two and I felt we were comfortable in the game. The only real chance they have had they have scored from.

“We pride ourselves on cleansheets, and if we do that we are always capable of scoring goals.

“It does leave a bitter taste in the mouth.

“We have to take confidence from the rest of the performance, and we look forward to the game next week, knowing that we will probably have to score over there.

“I thought they had some good players, technically very good and they also have some good experience. We knew at times they would have possession and would have the ball. So there were times when we sat off and other times we tried to get in about them.

“They are well into their season. This was our first game but from Joe all the way through to Sam, I thought we did look strong and we looked fit.

“Their keeper has obviously had a good night and pulled off a lot of good saves.

“We dust ourselves down, recover right and then start focussing on the game next week. We know we will have to put in a strong performance. With that away goal, we have to go over there with the mindset that we have to score.

“I would like to thank the fans who came out in their numbers tonight. They backed us from the first minute to the last. I am sure the fans will also travel in good numbers next week.

“All in all, disappointed with the goal we lost but we must take confidence from the two goals we scored and the performance. We can’t get too down.”
