Sam spoke to the media earlier this week to preview the Rangers game on Saturday.
We are looking forward to it (the game v Rangers). As footballers these are games and the weeks that you want to be involved in.
“It is always a massive game against Rangers, but I think we can take a lot of confidence from last season. There are now two very different sides but I think it will be in the back of their mind and our mind the results that we got against them last season.
“I am confident (that we can get the victory). If our team put a performance together then we are up there with the best teams. If we put that performance in, we have every chance of getting the victory that we want.
“The performances are something that we need to work on. We have been inconsistent with our performances, but we have not had a bad start to the season, we are sitting third in the table, with a decent enough points tally.
“We are still in and around it. If we do get the win against Rangers especially at home, it will do well to plug the gap on them.
“It’s been a bit stop start (with the injuries) but we are used to it as footballers. We struggled with injuries last season. It can almost be a bit of a blessing with the emergence of players like Connor McLennan and Dean Campbell. They came in when there was injuries and they have taken the opportunity. They are mainstays in the first team now. We will miss the boys who are out injured but we have got the squad capable to fill in for them.
“There is plenty of quality in this squad. The boys at the start of the season were creating a lot of chances when we were playing well. If new boys come in there is definitely an opportunity to show themselves.
“I feel good in my game and confident, but I wouldn’t be here if I just rested on my laurels and be content with what I have got. I want to score more goals and do better for the team. It is now about pushing on and get to the next level and scoring goals is definitely a big statement towards doing that.
“There are different kinds of pressures. Last season there was a lot of pressure on the strikers to score when we were not scoring.
“This season I feel there is more of an expectation for me to score and I think I can thrive off that. Last season when I was scoring there was the same expectation to keep on scoring and I think that is there. It is definitely something that I look forward to and hopefully I can keep it going.”
