Paul Sheerin | Hearts Reaction

“We were fortunate enough to get the benefit of the five first teamers, albeit Scott and Chidi are a bit younger, but it was good to get them involved.

“Especially Nicky Maynard, with the way he works and that attitude to the game was brilliant. Players that come in and work like that and show their appetite and attitude, it is good for the young ones to see. Although it should be a given that work ethic, it’s not always the case. Nicky put in a shift and hopefully the young boys should take on board that means to any player at any level. You have to show the same attitude and application.

“The first half I thought we could have been more clinical, but in the final third it didn’t quite happen for us. In fairness to Hearts they defended well and got their bodies in the way. It would have been nice to get a couple more, but in fairness at 3-0 the game did peter out a bit and we saw it out at that stage.

“We picked them out on the counter attack a few times and maybe could have picked up a couple up, but happy enough with the clean sheet and three goals to go with that is pleasing.

“A couple of times in the first half we were a wee bit rash and rushing into things when we didn’t need to. Joe’s (MacPherson) has not played much football and its getting important we get an understanding with him and Sam (Roscoe) which may be needed come the Youth Cup. With Harlain being suspended and out on loan it gives Joe a chance and once the two of them get used to playing with each other again I’m sure they’ll look a bit more comfortable. For the main they were, but  couple of occasions they made rash decisions.

“The cup game is just about fitting it in. We’ll look at the dates in the next week or so and I’m sure we’ll come to some sort of agreement and certainly within three weeks we’ll hopefully have that played.”
