Niall McGinn spoke to RedTV after the victory in the Scottish Cup on Tuesday evening.

“We are delighted to get through.

“It was a very professional performance. It was important we got on the front foot early on and thankfully the first half display was excellent.

“We had a lot of chances and took them in the first half and second half we were able to see the game out.

“They put a wee bit of pressure on us scoring from a set piece and caused us problems just after half time. The only disappointing thing was not getting a clean sheet. We’d have liked the clean sheet, but we’re delighted just to get through as that’s the most important thing.

“A big shout out to the fans.

“They travelled down in their numbers on a cold Tuesday night and helped make the game a lot easier than it might have been. They knew the importance of helping us into the next round of the cup.

“I was delighted to score when I did because I missed a good chance with my left in the opening stages.

“That miss is one of those ones when you’ve time to think which can sometimes make it harder.

“For my goal Scott’s done well to find me and I didn’t have much time to think this time, so I’ve managed to put it in the far left corner which was very pleasing. I’m just delighted to get on the scoresheet and more importantly we’re through to the next round.

“It’s pleasing to get a home tie, but the most important thing was getting through tonight. Also with no injuries, it’s been a good night’s work. Home ties are always nice in the cups and we’ll concentrate on that when it comes around.

“Queen of the South have had a great result tonight so we will have to do our homework on them between now then.

“Since I’ve been here it’s always been very important for us to do well in the cups.

“We’ve been to many semi-finals and a few finals, so we want to go that one step further in the Scottish Cup. I’ve won the League Cup so it’s the one thing I’d love to win for Aberdeen. Delighted we’re into the next round and we’ve just got to dust ourselves down and get back to league action at the weekend at a tough venue.

“The most important thing now is to rest up and recover and go again on Saturday.

“There are two big league games coming up with Hibs on Saturday and Rangers the following Wednesday. They are good games to get back on track with and we’ll be looking to pick up points following the disappointment of drawing on Saturday.

“We’re where we want to be (right in the mix) in the league and the cup.

“At the start of December, we were looking up the table but we had a great month and put ourselves in a great position. These big games against Hibs and Rangers are what we want to be involved in and they are very important three points. It’s all about keeping that momentum and we’re looking forward to those games when they come.

“It was great to see Tommie Hoban back on the field again. He has been very unlucky with injuries. He stepped back into the side tonight and did not look out of place. I am delighted for Ethan Ross, getting the chance to make his debut. It is a moment he will remember for a long time. Also Scott Wright came into the side and did very well.

“It was a good team performance all round. Greg was finding space and took his goal very well. It was important we created chances with the quality of players we had on the field. Also you look at the bench with Gary and James, and also Stephen Gleeson and Dom are very good players as well. We want a strong squad and we want competition for places. We have to make it hard as possible for the manager selecting his team every week.”
