“It is a big game. We showed last year when we went down there and won how big a fixture it is and how much it means to the fans and the team.

“We go into the game knowing that we need to be on top of our game if we are to get a result.

“It is always nice to play in big games and you always want to test yourself against good players. You want to test yourself in big environments. You want to be able to step up when the game gets tough. You want to play in atmospheres like that. It is important we go down there and impose ourselves on the game.

“Winning their last year maybe got the monkey off our back but at the same time when you play for a team like Aberdeen, there is pressure on you in every game you play. If we want to be at the top end of the league, and we want to challenge, then we need to win a lot of games and get used to that pressure. We know we need to go down there and get the three points.

“At the start of the season we spoke as a group. We spoke about wanting to kick on more than we have done in the past few seasons and to do that we need to win pretty much every game. A couple of years ago we went 10, 11, 12 games winning almost every one of them and Celtic were still there doing that as well. So, every game is huge. It is another three points to keep our away run going.

“The importance of the game with Rangers being around us in the table, that is there. Getting a win against one of sides that is going to be there or thereabouts at the end of the season is important because you pick up three points and they drop three points. So that is a factor, but we are concentrating on the fact that we will have to play well if we want to go down there and win.

“To be honest there is no added edge. We as players have never bothered about the speculation. We have been lucky enough that we are at a club that has been successful for the last few years. With us being successful there has always been that speculation but it has never got into the changing room. It has never affected the way we work. It has never affected the way the manager has worked. To put it to bed for the fans was important but from the players point of view it was never an issue to start with. It never affected us and I can honestly say that.

“For us the run Rangers are on is irrelevant. When Aberdeen come to Ibrox it is a huge game. What has happened before, regards form and circumstances, that goes out the window. As I say we went there at the tail end of last and got a result. Our fans loved it and I am sure Rangers will not want it to happen again.

“It is going to be a tough game. We know that we are going to have to bring the best that we have got if we want to get a result.

“It is always nice to go into a big game on the back of a good result.

“The Kilmarnock game was important after the performance against Motherwell. I felt we put in a good performance at Rugby Park. I think when you step back and look at the results this season, we have still been on a very good run. A bad game can happen. It has happened before and I am sure it will happen again.

“When bad results come we do feel it. We are used to winning. There has always been such a positive attitude around the place. We don’t take bad results well. We have always had a strong squad and a strong team since I have been here.”
