“It was difficult conditions today and the pitch was not great, but I thought we dominated the first half, we had a couple of good chances and probably should have put the ball in the back of the net.

“Naturally it is a disappointed dressing room at the moment after dropping points. We set out to win every game. As well as getting into the semi-final we want to finish as high as we can in the league so every game is important.

“The will to win was there. There are some other positives to take, such as the clean sheet. The game was there to be won but it did not fall for us today so we need to take those positives into a massive game on Tuesday night.

“The gaffer spoke in the dressing room after the game about the need to do that.

“We need to forget about this game quickly and move onto the next game. We have to be positive and try and do the business at Rugby Park.

“It will be very tough. Since Steve Clarke came in he has done an unbelievable job. They are playing good football.

“Kris Boyd is a very influential player for them but Kilmarnock have got some players throughout the squad. Jordan Jones is another man who is in form. Boyd is similar to the striker I was up against today. Sammon is another player who is in form. He is also a strong boy and knows how to unsettle defenders. We kept him quiet today and we will have to try and keep their strikers quiet on Tuesday night.

“We are going to have to be at our best and hopefully if we are then we can come away with the win and come away with a place in the semi-final.

“Scott (McKenna) and I are both young players but we have built up a good understanding. We were all pleased with the cleansheet because we have not had one for a while.

“We understand how big a game it is in terms of our season. As footballers you have to handle that pressure. People are maybe writing us off because we have not won a game in a while. We have had some disappointing result’s so people will be doubting us. All the talk is about other teams but we just try and get on with our own business quietly.

“Trying to get to a final, what more motivation do you need, especially after the way we lost in the final last season. The motivation is definitely there to try and get back to Hampden.

“Me personally I prefer playing on grass pitches. I understand the argument for artificial pitches when you are playing on surfaces like that and maybe today on an artificial surface we would have been able to knock the ball about a bit better. The way the pitches are at the moment is the reason plastic pitches have been brought in. There will always be an argument that if it had been an artificial surface we played on today then it might have been a better game to watch.”
