Player Profile - Details

Dublin born Rooney signed for Stoke City in the summer of 2005. In only his second full start for Stoke City, he scored a hat-trick against already relegated Brighton & Hove Albion in the final fixture of the 2005–06 season to become Stoke’s youngest ever hat-trick scorer. Rooney then signed a three-year deal with Inverness CT after a couple of loan spells and in the 2009/10 season was awarded the First Division Player of the Year award. He was top scorer in the First Division with 24 goals and helped ICT win the league title. After his contract with Inverness CT expired at the end of the 2010–11 season, Rooney signed a two-year deal with English Championship side Birmingham City. On the last day of the August 2012 transfer window, he joined League One club Swindon Town on loan. In August, he signed a two-year contract with Oldham.

On 23 January 2014, Rooney signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Aberdeen. He scored on his debut two days later in a 2–2 draw with Motherwell at Fir Park. Rooney scored his fifth goal in six appearances on 25 February, to help his side end Celtic’s 26-match unbeaten run.

Adam was voted SPFL player of the month for February 2014, highlighting his incredible start to life as an Aberdeen player. He went on to score nine goals for the Dons and had the honour of scoring the decisive penalty kick in a 4–2 shoot-out to win over his former club in the League Cup final.

Over the next few seasons Adam continued to score goals and joined Mark McGhee and Joe Harper as the only players to score European hattricks for the club. He netted his 50th goal for Aberdeen in a league match at Kilmarnock and has scored 20+ in every full season he’s been with the club.

Adam has played for the Ireland U17s, U19s and was capped nine times for the under-21 team between 2007 and 2010.
