Aberdeen Women round off what has been an intense period of fixtures this Sunday when they travel south once again to take on Glasgow City in the Scottish Cup. Kick-off is 2pm at Petershill Park. The Dons defeated Hutchison Vale at the Balmoral Stadium in January to progress to the fifth round.

This is the first of two back to back games against Glasgow City, with the sides having already met twice so far this season, once in the league and once in the SWPL Cup.

Academy Director Gavin Levey previewed the game:

“If we can find a way to get a bit of freshness to get into us then we will heading into Sunday’s game. The players need to go out with that no fear attitude like they did against Rangers and see what happens. We have not had the run of breaks either. We had had some disappointments recently but hopefully we can stick together and go out and show what we have got and have a bit more of a go against Glasgow City at the weekend. Hopefully we can make it a right good cup tie.

“With the number of games over recent weeks we have not been able to train properly. We have been coming in, playing a game, travelling home, we are doing a match prep session where we have to be really light and then we are going again. It does take its toll on us for sure. We haven’t had a lot of time to train properly in the new year. Once this game is out of the way this weekend then we can get back to training two or three times a week and play a match at the weekend.”

Defender Donna Paterson also looked ahead to Sunday’s Scottish Cup match:

“The run of fixtures that we have had has been pretty difficult. We have had two games against the top two sides in the country who are both professional sides. We have got girls coming from work, travelling and getting back late. It is not an excuse but you can tell it takes a bit of toll off of the girls legs. We have got to knuckle down, work hard and keep going.

“It is a difficult tie, they have been champions many times over a number of years. We will take it like any other game. We will go out and try to do our best and hopefully we can try and get into the next round of the cup.

“We have a break after Sunday’s game which is always nice after what has been some hard defeats. We will still train and work hard during that break and hopefully we will kick on again and try to fight our way back up the table a wee bit.”
