Eirinn McCafferty joins the Dons

As AFC Women prepare to kick of their SWPL1 season away to Hamilton on Sunday, they have bolstered their defensive ranks after capturing the signature of Eirinn McCafferty.

The 22-year-old defender began her footballing career with Monifieth FC, where she captained the team, before joining Dundee United, helping them to win two leagues and the league cup.

A Scotland Under 19, Eirinn opted to purse a scholarship in America with Queens University of Charlotte, North Carolina in 2018 before returning to Scotland four year later to sign with Forfar Farmington.

Having spent time with the squad during pre-season before official signing her paperwork, Eirinn is looking forward to kick starting her AFC career.

She said: “I’m really happy to be here. There is a great squad at the Club, and I am excited to see what we can do this season.

“Training has been intense and of a really high standard. I know Gavin Beith from my time at Dundee United, and a few players from the nation camps so that has really helped me settle. There is a really good set up here at Aberdeen, especially the training facilities at Cormack Park.

“It was great experience to play in America, but it is good to be home and I am looking forward to seeing what AFC Women can achieve this season.”

AFC Woman co-manager, Gavin Beith, was pleased to see Eirinn join the Dons having worked with her previously.

He added: “We are delighted to welcome Eirinn into squad. She adds quality, versatility and has experience of playing SWPL1 football from her time at Forfar Farmington which will prove extremely valuable.

“Eirinn is someone I’ve known for a long time.  She’s a good character with a great work ethic and we look forward to seeing her play for Aberdeen this season.”
