The points were shared in Dingwall on Tuesday night, but Aberdeen boss Stephen Glass felt that his side could have been bringing all three points home with them.

“It was a frustrating night because we were much better than last week at St Mirren and we deserved more from the game.

“I was pleased with our goal because it was a good ball from Scott into an area we’d looked at, then Jonny did ever so well. The energy to get there was great, then the finish was top class as well, the goalkeeper was never getting it. Jonny has great energy, a pure desire to play football and a real will to win. If you can get as many of those in your team as possible, that’s great.

“It was disappointing to concede so quickly after taking the lead. We didn’t look after a basic throw-in, we allowed them to get out. It was a decent finish in the end from the edge of the box, but we could have done better higher up the pitch.”

Amid a number of good performances across the team, new signing Vicente Besuijen certainly caught the eye on occasion, much to the manager’s satisfaction.

“Vicente showed signs of what he’s going to give us. It’s the first time he’s played with the lads, we’ve not even had chance to have a practice match either, so it was a lot to ask of him, but he showed what he’s capable of. I think he’s going to be very dangerous, the fact that he got through 90 minutes was very positive too, and it was good to see him hit the ground running.”

With the transfer window closed, the manager admitted to being largely happy with the club’s dealings across January.

“We’ve got a lot of good players here, we believe in the group. The last couple of games we should have been a bit better and have more points, but we haven’t lost sight of what we have. We haven’t had to panic and bring in five players or anything like that. We’re comfortable with the squad, we need to do a bit better, but we have the players that can do that over the rest of the season.

“We would have liked to get another centre-forward in and we were working until late to try to get it done, but the most important thing is to get the right one and not just anyone. It’s very easy to make a mistake and handicap yourself for the summer. A lot of players don’t want to come just until the end of the season, they want 18 months, and it can be tough doing things late on in the window. If you can add quality, great. But if it’s not there, you have to be strong enough not to do it.

“Timing is a lot of it too – if Vicente had only come on the last day of the window, everyone would have been delighted, because you get the drama of deadline day. We were very happy to have him earlier to get that extra time to work with him.

“Adam Montgomery has come in and adds to the competition for places. He can play a number of positions, he’s got obvious quality. Jack MacKenzie hasn’t started a game since Dundee United away in November, it’s been a long time since he’s been on the pitch, so we need options in that area of the pitch, as well as having Jonny play there. Competition is very important, players being comfortable that they’ll be picked is not what you want.

“We were pleased to keep hold of players too, that was important. The only one we lost who was starting regularly was Ryan Hedges. He was an unhappy player with an agent looking to get him out of the club, and it was best for the club to let him go.

“Any uncertainty for players like Calvin has gone now. He’s an 18 year old kid who has had a lot of talk going on about him and his future, life changing things talked about. In the circumstances and with his age, I thought he handled it pretty well during the window and tonight he showed more of what he’s about. I still think there’s more to come though, from him and from others.”
