Jack MacKenzie returned to the side after being cup tied last week, and it was another assured display from the youngster who is enjoying a very special period at present.

“It’s been a very positive few weeks, with my new contract and then starting the last two league games. I’m an Aberdeen fan, I’ve been involved with the club for 11 years, so I’m really proud of getting this opportunity to play for the club. I’m just delighted to be playing and I hope it can continue. I really appreciate Paul putting me into the team at Tannadice a few weeks back and I was delighted to get the opportunity again today.

“I want to keep myself in the team, keep having positive performances and positive results. The next thing is to impress the new manager and to try to play as many games as I can. I was meant to go over to Atlanta 2 on loan last season, last March, and play for him there, but obviously Covid put an end to that. I’m really excited to get the chance to work with him now because I’ve heard a lot of good things about him before I was supposed to go over there, and even more now about how he wants us to play.

“Going on loan to Forfar earlier this season instead was great for me, I learnt heaps there. The manager was really good with me, the senior lads taught me a lot too, so it was a great experience for me – I’d probably still be there now if the season hadn’t been put on hold. Playing senior football where you have to win, week in, week out, it’s a big step up from development football and it was really good for me, it’s stood me in good stead.

“It was very much needed, I don’t think my game was at the level you need to be at if you’re playing for Aberdeen. Even though it was only 14 games at Forfar, it made a huge difference. It’s just frustrating that I’m not available for the Scottish Cup games – I played for Forfar against Linlithgow Rose, so I’m cup tied now!”
