Scottish Cup Reaction | Paul Sheerin

“Before the game, we stressed the need to be patient. We have a good group of players who have struggled in the final third in recent weeks. With the lack of goals that we’ve had, the longer that run goes on, the more desperate you become and that showed in the second half a little bit when we were throwing things into the box and just allowing them to defend, which they did brilliantly.

“With the number of chances we created, it was inevitable the goal would come eventually. We’ve scored, we’ve won the game and that was what mattered today.

“Dumbarton gave us a tough time in the cup last year and we knew it would be a difficult tie, these games often are, but we’re through, we’ve got something to build on, something to look forward to, so it was a positive afternoon.”

“Callum has been very close to starting but we just wanted to try something different up top today. It was always in my mind that we would get him on the pitch at some stage and I was really pleased he got his goal. He showed how sharp he is, quick feet, he did the keeper with his eyes, and finished nicely.”

“Calvin Ramsay did well for us, he played himself into the game and made a decent full debut that he can be pleased with. He loves going forward, maybe he needs to tighten up defensively at times, but he’s learning the game.

“He’s a confident lad, loves getting on the ball and getting crosses in and he did that really well today. He’s not played a lot of football like a lot of the young boys over the last year, he’s been injured, so we’re hopeful it’s nothing more serious than cramp with him, but obviously he needed to come off.”

“Stephen Glass arrived last night so now he has to go through the 10 day quarantine period and then he’ll be in situ in the week leading up to the next round. We’ve spoken regularly but he’s left us to our own devices to run things on the ground as we see fit, because it’s obviously difficult doing that from distance.”
