In response to the COVID-19 outbreak we quickly marshalled our forces as a club to support the community through our #StillStandingFree campaign. Our message to our city, our region and our supporters is that we have been Standing Free since 1903 and we will be #StillStandingFree at the end of this if we all stick together!

Dons Chairman Dave Cormack added, “I fully appreciate that our supporters have their own challenges at this time but, as the Chairman, it is incumbent on me to appeal to all our Dons fans, partners and sponsors to do what you can to support the Club at this critical time. I’ve been heartened by the messages of support I have received from fans asking what they can do to help the Club through this really difficult period.

“I’m hugely encouraged by those still buying season tickets, renewing or subscribing to AberDNA and buying merchandise on-line. This underlines the amazing and loyal support we have from the Red Army. Like you, I love our Club and what we stand for. We are determined to get through this and I am confident we will, if we all stand together.”

Season Ticket Latest – Target £200k

To date, 6,700 fans have purchased 20/21 season tickets and, through the investors’ matched 10% donation linked to season tickets, over £150,000 has been raised for the Trust.

This is despite not knowing what will happen with the current season and when the new season will commence. For this loyalty and generosity during these uncertain times, we are incredibly grateful. Thank you.

AFC’s investors have agreed to set the ambitious target of generating £200,000 through a matched donation, to allow the Trust to continue its vital work in supporting those most in need in our community through the COVID19 crisis.

In addition to supporting vital food deliveries, in conjunction with CFINE, and the welfare calls, Aberdeen FC Community Trust is planning to use the funds, matched by the investors, to support the following initiatives as a starting point:

– Mental health in the region by running a MINDSET workshop throughout schools in the city and shire to build resilience and confidence in our future generations.

– Hosting a community day in the autumn at Cormack Park for NHS staff and frontline workers who are keeping us all safe during this crisis.

Liz Bowie, chief executive of AFC Community Trust, said: “It really is a win win situation for both the Club and the community. The support we have had from the AFC board, Dons’ supporters and the wider community has been truly humbling. Our assurance is that the funds we receive, through the donations linked to season ticket sales, will not just improve lives but will save lives in the short, medium and long term by improving the mental health of our region at a time when it’s going to become a major issue due to people struggling to cope with the lock-down.”

AberDNA

AberDNA is our membership scheme which entitles members access to exclusive events and experiences and a multitude of benefits at the same time as directly supporting the Football Operation.

With a 92% renewal rate since its inception, we’ve got over 6,000 members and are aiming to grow this over time with your support. AberDNA is here to stay and will play a significant part in our journey towards becoming a more successful and sustainable Club.

Last month, our Chairman, Dave Cormack, outlined the importance of AberDNA to AFC: “Football success is our number one priority. We are the fifth best supported team in Scotland in terms of attendances and season tickets with the third largest football budget.

“Season tickets deliver around £2 million a year in income, with walk-ups and away fans contributing £1 million, and AberDNA about £1 million. In total, that’s almost half the football budget.”

AberDNA is available to purchase or renew online, or by calling 01224 63 1903 Monday – Friday 10am-5pm.
