AFC Supporter Survey 2020

In January 2019 we gave supporters the opportunity to provide feedback across areas of their day-to-day interaction with the club through the first annual AFC Supporter Survey. The response was fantastic with over 5,000 supporters providing an invaluable insight into their relationship with the club and areas where we can improve.

The survey helped to validate some changes which were already on the agenda and provided some fresh ideas and insight which is continuing to help shape the future of the club.

Over the past year progress has been made across several areas including improving our accessibility for disabled supporters becoming the first club in Scotland to offer disabled tickets online, a development which has been well received by those using the service.

Efforts are also being made to improve the matchday experience at Pittodrie where several initiatives have been trialled over the past year including the visit of world class rider Dougie Lampkin MBE prior to our match against St Mirren in November. Further exciting initiatives are underway, primarily the trial of the Merkland Stand as a traditional home end for the Dumbarton Scottish Cup Fourth Round tie.

Plans are currently being put in place to trial a fan zone event before the end of the season, encouraging supporters to turn up early and enjoy pre-match entertainment, food and drinks for an extended period before kick-off.

We received valuable feedback to share with our catering partner, Sodexo, and have taken steps to identify some areas for improvement. In September we introduced a pre-paid kiosk voucher which provides supporters with a pie, drink and confectionery item for just £5 to reduce queuing times at the kiosk. Sodexo have also put forward plans to involve supporters in a food sampling session that will take place early this year with a range of new matchday food options available to taste.

Building on the success of the initial launch of AberDNA in 2018, combined with the feedback provided by supporters, we are looking to make changes ahead of 2020/21 to widen the reach of the initiative which has generated in excess of £1 million in support of the Football Operation so far, and make becoming a member more accessible, particularly for younger supporters.

There is a growing desire for mobile ticketing and plans to roll out that technology have continued this season with season ticket holders in the Richard Donald, Main and Merkland Stands now able to gain access to the stadium using their mobile device. This will be extended to season ticket holders in the South Stand later this year ahead of a full roll-out to supporters buying tickets on a game-by-game basis.

Across ticketing we have brought back matchday Student ticket prices which has coincided with stronger links being made with our Official Education Partner Robert Gordon University and the University of Aberdeen.

Over the past year we have been able to make further improvements to RedTV, with international subscribers having access to every match live this season. This has been as a result of increased investment in the product by the club to show matches which would have previously been inaccessible.

From the feedback in the survey last year it was clear that supporters wanted to see more video content produced by the club across digital channels and this has been delivered with an increase of 25% across our main social media platforms. This remains something that the club is committed to, with more behind the scenes content planned to bring supporters closer to all the action at Pittodrie and Cormack Park.

As part of ongoing efforts to enhance every aspect of our engagement with supporters we are once again inviting the Red Army to offer their views on a variety of aspects including ticketing, memberships, retail, catering and the wider matchday experience with the 2020 survey.
