After their superb victory over Spartans in the last round of the Scottish Cup, the AFC Women’s team have earned a home tie against Kilmarnock on Sunday in the 4th Round. Kilmarnock are currently 5th in the Second Division so it will be another tough test. The girls would certainly appreciate your support from anyone who is able to attend the game at Cove.

Ahead of the tie we previewed the game with Co-managers Harley Hamdani and Emma Hunter

Harley: “Despite the fantastic result in the last round I don’t there is any more pressure on us going into this game.

“It is a similar situation to last time and we will approach the game the same way we would any other. Since the win over Spartans we have had a league game which produced a positive outcome and we approached that the same way.

“We know the pressure is on Kilmarnock again to go and get the result.

“We will give it our all. We have a game plan and we will see what happens.

“Confidence is high after the last couple of weeks.

“We have taken a lot of confidence from the win over Spartans after showing that we want to be playing at that level.

“We said it a couple of weeks ago, this is a start of a journey but the game in the last round was a real chance to show the direction we want to go in. We can only use it for motivation for the rest of the season.

“There has been a really good competitiveness and tempo in training and that is always pleasing.”

Emma: “We have managed to have a look at Kilmarnock. We knew some information beforehand but ahead of the game we have had a deeper look at them.

“That have got some really good players in their squad.

“From watching them it is very obvious that they are a team who like to play football and that is something we are excited to come up against.

“They are in a league higher than us and sitting midtable so they deserve a lot of respect and it will be a very tough test for us again. But we are all really looking forward to the challenge.

“This is the type of game that we want to be playing. We can’t wait to get started on Sunday.

“The last few weeks have been full of positives. On and off the pitch.

“A lot of the girls have been selected for national squads – we have almost half the team involved at various levels with Scotland. That has given us a big boost as a club, as has the result against Spartans.

“We can only now go on and build that confidence and hopefully that will show in our performance on Sunday.

“We have home advantage. Cove is a good facility.

“The surface at The Balmoral Stadium will be in our favour because we are a team that like to play football and keep the ball on the deck. Hopefully that will be to our advantage, as will the crowd. Having supporters come along to back the girls can really spur them on.

“So I would encourage everyone to come along on Sunday to support us.

“Two games against Kilmarnock this weekend, so hopefully two wins!”
