“It was a really difficult game. They are a good side.

“We know that Inverurie have aspirations of doing well in the Highland League this season and with that squad I am sure they will be fine.

“So from our point of view it was a very good challenge. It was good to see Miko Virtanen, Chris Antoniazzi and Jack Chesser all back on the pitch. That was pleasing.

“The most pleasing thing was the cleansheet.

“I keep harping on about that. Against Devonvale, when we watched the game back, we were still guilty of being a bit naive at the back and not getting into our shape quick enough. I though we did that far better for the main tonight – and that has earned us a cleansheet and the win.

“It is something to build on.

“I asked for something more that we have had in the first two games and I think there is definitely signs of improvement. We just need to keep building that up as pre-season develops. By the time the real stuff comes around hopefully we will be ready to get going.

“For the goal it was a great ball from Calvin Ramsay and the finish was Seb all over in terms of the timing of his run. Calvin still has to pick him out and he made it look easy and it was a good finish from Seb.

“I felt at times Seb was ahead of the game when we needed him. Seb and Michael Ruth were a bit in each other’s way in the first half, so I was trying to get him to be a bit more patient. I thought he did that better in the second half and we were able to play through him more. He got his rewards with the goal.

“I have been really pleased with Calvin Ramsay since him came in the club.

“Kevin Hanratty this evening as well, some of his stuff going forward was outstanding. He should have had a penalty in the first half. More often than not he looks like he is going to create something in possession. We just need to get Kevin to work on and understand the other side of the game as quickly as we can. He seems to be learning.

“We all know the sore one we took in Elgin, and we have worked hard to try and rectify certain parts of what went wrong that night defensively.

“Likewise, after the last game against Devonvale we have worked hard to rectify things in the front areas, can we be more clinical?

“We probably still need to do some work on that, but as the gaffer pointed out about the first team game, that is the last thing to come (sharpness in front of goal). If we keep creating chances then hopefully when we do get up to speed, we will start taking the opportunities.

“For me at the moment it is about learning the game, keeping the shape and being solid and hard to break down because when you see the talent in the front areas, you are going to win more games than not if you keep that solidity at the back.

“So the progress report – third game and signs of improvement going forward which is pleasing and as long as we can continue that, the learning process going forward will be ok.

“We now have a game against Keith on Saturday and Huntly on Tuesday night.”
