Joe spoke with the Redmatchday team ahead of Saturday’s match with St Johnstone

“I am pleased with my own form.

“I have always enjoyed playing in the big games and it is nice to be able to make some saves. Obviously the penalty save was a good one to make as at the time it kept us in the game, but unfortunately it did not have an effect on the end result.

“At Ibrox it was nice to play your part in the clean sheet. I think it you go to Ibrox and go down to ten men, you are going to be called upon to make some saves. I was pleased to have played my part in a win that meant a lot to the players as well as the fans, even more so after what happened in the cup final.

“I think the pick of the three that I made was the one in the first half (from Middleton). It was sneaking into the corner. Quite often the ones in the top corner look better! But the saves in the bottom corner are harder. I was not quite sure if the shot was going wide or not but you always try and get a touch to make sure.

“It was nice to make a contribution because to be fair this season I have not tended to have a lot of shots to save. We have defended well in the majority of the games and have a good number of clean sheets. The defence have been really strong and it feels like I have not had a lot to saves to make – not sure if the stats back that up or not or it is just how it feels.

“As a goalkeeper there is no better feeling than playing your part and when you win 1-0 it feels that extra bit special. I felt all the players on Wednesday night deserved a clean sheet. I would include Sam in that as well. He is very unlucky and he was the one who got fouled. Unfortunately he can’t appeal it which is disappointing for him.

“He played his part in the result.

“I thought for the 34 minutes he was on the pitch he was excellent. His presence inside the box created the goal. He was winning everything in the air and was also doing very well defensively, he cleared a number of their set pieces. He did not give their defenders a moment’s piece and I think that set the tone for the game really. The pressing from the boys was very good, even with ten men.

“The more games the better for me! Not necessarily because it reduces the amount of training we have to do, honest! I just love getting into the routine of playing games. Earlier in the season we had three international breaks inside three months. It is a little bit stop start so it is nice now to get your teeth into some games now. Although I don’t get as tired physically because I am not running a round as much as the others.

“It is a good opportunity to get some points get us right back up the league.
