Scotland U20s | Trio Called Up For Friendly

Once again, Aberdeen are well represented at international level with three players earning a call up to the Scotland U20s side as Bruce Anderson, Connor McLennan and Lewis Ferguson have all been named in Scot Gemmill’s squad to face Turkey in Spain later this month.

All three are deservedly called up due to excellent form at both youth and senior levels for The Dons. Lewis Ferguson has been a mainstay in the first team after joining from Hamilton Accies in the summer and grabbed the headlines in the Europa League against Burnley by scoring a terrific overhead kick at Turf Moor. Last week Lewis put himself into Pittodrie folklore when he headed a late winner against Rangers in the Betfred Cup Semi-Final at Hampden and then followed that up with another late winner as The Dons completed an unlikely comeback against Kilmarnock on Sunday with the midfielder curling in a free kick as the clock ticked down.

Bruce Anderson has also received a first call up at this level and like Lewis has hit the headlines this season with vital goals for the first team. His debut came on the opening day of the season and he made the most of it with a 92nd equaliser for his boyhood team against Rangers. Bruce has amassed eleven first team appearances this season and got the comeback started on Sunday at Rugby Park with a poachers finish. Bruce has also been scoring for fun in the Reserve League and this call up is the next stage of his development.

Connor McLennan has been around the first team much more often this season and made his first appearance at Pittodrie against St Mirren. Despite not being in the original squad, McLennan made the bench as Niall McGinn picked up a knock in the warm up. He would go on to score his first goal in his first start against the same opponent two months later with a lovely curling effort from distance. Like Bruce, Connor has been plying his trade with the reserve squad this season and has played his part for the first team when called upon.

Scot Gemmill takes his team to Murcia in Spain for the friendly with Turkey as he looks to build on a productive campaign with the U21s as the side narrowly missed out for qualification for the European Championships.

Good luck to Bruce, Connor and Lewis for when they head out to Spain with Scotland and congratulations on the excellent form for the club.

Also good luck to Archie Mair, Dean Campbell and Seb Ross who have all been called up for Billy Stark’s U19 side as they travel to Wales for the next stage of the European Championship qualifiers.
