“It is up there. (as a favourite moment during my long Aberdeen career)

“We knew it would be very tough today and we seem to do things the hard way at this club at times! It came down to the last day and we knew it would tough. I believe that was our first clean sheet in the league at Celtic Park for a very long time. So there were a lot of things against us but I thought the boys were incredible. The amount of last ditch tackles all the defenders made, the work midfielders did to protect the back four, the saves Joe made at the end.

“We knew that we would only get a couple of chances. I think we only had a couple of chances. Thankfully we managed to take one. Then we defended for our life’s and as I say big Joe pulled off some great saves towards the end as well.

“To come down here to win is a big thing. No one takes you seriously unless you come down here and win.

“A fantastic day.

“There was a lot of talk at the start of the season about who would finish second with Rangers bolstering their squad and then with Hibs doing so well during the campaign. People were writing us off, but we have just quietly gone about our work. It has maybe not been our most consistent season in terms of performances, but we have ground out results. There were a lot of comings and goings at the start of the season, so it was always going to be harder this year. We hung in there and managed to take it to the final game of the season.

“We showed a real togetherness and thankfully we got the result today.

“There was a question mark over us because in truth we have been dire against the Old Firm this season to be honest. We were a lot better against Rangers at Pittodrie the other night although a draw was probably a fair result. Today I felt we were a lot more solid as a unit and everyone played a part.

“As I said you only get a couple of chances in these games and you have to take them. That is something we have not done this season against Celtic. We have missed chances to get that all important first goal in the other matches this season against them.

“When the ball fell to me the only thought that went through my head was to put my laces through it. Thankfully the shot found the bottom corner.

“Next season will be even harder. All the teams around us will strengthen their squads and I am sure we will do the same thing. But all I am concerned about at the moment is what happened today and we have finished second once again. It is a pat on the back for all the staff at the club.

“There will be a lot of new faces coming in and they will be reminded of the mentality needed to come down to Glasgow to get results.

“There were some tough periods during the season and we did have some shaky moments. The speculation surrounding the manager probably did affect us more than we realised but any time we had a set back we bounced back strongly.

“A lot of people wrote us off this year. It was fantastic way to cement second spot by coming down here and getting the win. The manager deserves a lot of credit. Since day one when he arrived at the club he has done a brilliant job. During that time he has brought a lot of very good players to the club. Good players have left but he has replaced them. And he will do that again this summer.”
