PREVIEW

Tuesday night sees Kilmarnock and Aberdeen do it all again for a place in the Scottish Cup Semi-Final. With the first game ending in a 1-1 draw at Pittodrie, both teams will fancy their chances at Rugby Park and The Dons will take confidence knowing it’s a venue they’ve won every match under Derek McInnes.

Killie are unbeaten in nine matches and geared up for Tuesday’s match with a 3-2 win against Ross County on Saturday, whereas The Dons left Firhill frustrated after a 0-0 draw. Steve Clarke has helped revive the fortunes of the Ayrshire men as they seek a first Scottish Cup Semi-Final since 1997.

Ahead of the Kilmarnock match on Monday morning everyone at Pittodrie welcomed the inclusion of Scott McKenna, Ryan Christie and Kenny McLean into the Scotland Squad for the upcoming matches against Costa Rica and Hungary. It’s a first call-up for Scott having asserted his place in the heart of The Dons defence this season, whereas Ryan and Kenny were capped in the friendly against Holland last November.

WHAT THE MANAGER SAID

“We’re against a team in good form so with that in mind we can’t expect to go down there and be anything other than somewhere near our best to try and get through to the Semi-Final. It’s a brilliant opportunity for us.

“We feel as though we were in a strong position in the first game here. We were 1-0 up and we’ve caused a situation that allowed them to situation to equalise, but sometimes that happens in the cup. It’s all about getting through and we’ve not got a second chance to try and make amends and hopefully we can get the win we’re all looking for.

WHAT THE CAPTAIN SAID

“It is easy saying it. It is up to the players to go out and do it.

“We will need to be at our best on Tuesday. Every player will need to be at their best. But we know how good a team we can be on our day so confidence is still high amongst the squad despite the recent results.

“We have a reasonable record down there as well. That gives us a bit of confidence. It will be a good game, a good cup tie.

WHAT KENNY SAID

“Kilmarnock are on an excellent run and I don’t think many people expected what they’ve done the last few months. Our form isn’t as good, but we need to look past that and look at the quality we’ve got there. Everybody in that changing room knows we’re good enough to go to the semi-final.
