Paul Sheerin | Reaction after Celtic win

“I am really pleased. We have played down here a few times now. In my first season we did well with Lawrence and Cammy (won 3-0, went on to win the Development League). Last season we got beat 4-0 in April. So it was nice to come and get a good confidence building win ahead of next week’s SFA Youth Cup Quarter Final against Ross County.

“I thought we started the game really well and we get the goal. It was great to come out of the traps so well. The first half was then quite even for half an hour but in the last 15 minutes we really lost our way. Whether it was Dean going off, I am not sure, I can’t quite put my finger on it. I felt we lacked a bit of trust in what we were looking to do in terms of pressing them and using the ball. It all became a bit frantic.

“So half time probably came at a good time for us at 1-1.

“We regrouped and credit to the players, they all responded. They showed a bit more purpose about their pressing and a bit more composure in possession. It is probably as good a 45 minutes we have had, certainly this season.
“So really really pleased with their work in the second half.

“The goals obviously highlight (the performances of) Seb, Bruce and Ethan but I thought it was a very good team performance.

“David Dangana typified the performance. He came on (for Dean Campbell during the first half) and did really well. David has been in very good form recently and was a bit unlucky to be left out because of Connor McLennan and Bruce Anderson coming back into the side today. He came on and responded in exactly the right way. He never moans, he just works away every day in training and he really added something today in attack. Also Miko had a good game in the middle of the park. He was very good at breaking things up and stopping them getting any rhythm into their play.

“It would be wrong though to single anyone out. In terms of a team performance it was spot on in the second half.

“Because of the record Celtic have had over the years at reserve and youth level, there is always that added extra bit to these games. It was nice to come away with the 4-1 victory.

“I have mentioned a number of times before my frustrations at not having had a run at the Youth Cup in previous seasons. We have now reached the Quarter Final so potentially we are two games away from a cup final at Hampden. From the boy’s point of view, they have to recognise that. It will be tough. Ross County won the Development League last season and they are a good team, but we will do what we can to prepare properly and on the back of the result today, hopefully it will benefit them ahead of the game on Monday.

“Dean Campbell came off in the first half and it is too early to say how bad the injury is. He hit the advertising boards as he slid off the pitch. Fingers crossed it will not be too serious.”
