Graeme Shinnie | St Johnstone Post Match

30 September 2017

Captain Graeme Shinnie spoke to RedTV after the game:

“St Johnstone have a good record up here and they have obviously started the season very well.
“They would have been looking to come up here and win the game and get the three points which would have taken them level with us. We were well aware of what we were going to be up against and we were well up for the fight.

“As I said during the week on RedTV we needed to make sure we matched them and then let our quality come out on top.

“We seem to have been starting matches strongly and today was the same.

“But this time we kicked on and got another one and we were also adamant that we would not fall out of the game or take our foot off the pedal. When we came in at half time we put that message through the boys.

“When we came out at the start of the second half we knew we would have to stand up to a bit of pressure as they looked to try and get back into the game but I thought we did that and then the third goal came at a good time. We were then able to see out the game.

“I enjoyed playing left back. It has been a while. The formation they started with allowed me to get on the ball quite a lot and I tried to drive forward.

“Adam has been in and out of the team and has maybe not had as many minutes as he would have liked but he is a good professional. He will never let his head go down. He has been working harder than ever in training and today once he got his opportunity he took it with a hat-trick. I could not be more pleased for him.

“I think at the start of the season we would have taken this position apart from the fact we would have loved to have been in the semi-final. That was disappointing but our league position is exactly where we wanted to be, especially going into the international.

“If anything, the break has maybe come at the wrong time because today was probably the best we have played at home. But we will recharge the batteries as it is important to do so when we get the chance. We have some difficult games coming up but we will come back and look to kick on.”
