SDS National 7s Championship

28 September 2017

Last week two disability squads travelled to Glasgow to compete in the Scottish Disability Sport National 7 Aside Championships.

The teams comprised of players from the Friday Everybody Active Sessions, run in partnership with Sport Aberdeen, as well as players from the Disability Development Centre consisting of the best disability footballers aged 12-19 in the North Region.

Jo Bell, Sport Aberdeen Director for Sport and Active Lifestyles said, “Congratulations to all of the players who represented Grampian at the Scottish Disability Sport National 7-aside Championships at Toryglen.

“Sport Aberdeen are proud to be a partner in the disability football pathway which offers a range of exciting opportunities for players of all ages across the city.

“Supporting footballers of all abilities to access quality training and competitive opportunities, within a community setting is hugely important. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Aberdeen FC Community Trust and Grampian Disability Sport to encourage players to participate in football and reach their full potential.

“Sport Aberdeen is committed to inspiring people and creating opportunities in sport and physical activity that individuals of all abilities can take part in.”

Harley Hamdani, Diversity and Inclusion Officer at AFCCT added, “We are delighted to have supported the teams to attend this year’s SDS National 7-aside Championship. A lot of work has been done alongside partners including Sport Aberdeen and Grampian Disability Sport to ensure a vibrant full player pathway is created in Aberdeen for disability footballers.

“I look forward to seeing the growth in participation over the next year as we aim to support even more players at next year’s competition.”
