Greg Stewart | RedTV Interview

27 June 2017

After completing the paperwork at lunchtime Greg spoke to RedTV:

“I am delighted to be here. Obviously delighted for everything to be done so quick. Sometimes when you hear speculation it can drag on and on. As I say I am very happy to be here and really looking forward to getting started.

“Coming to Aberdeen is a no brainer football wise. Last season I went down south and I kept an eye on Scottish football. I watched Aberdeen on several occasions and they were absolutely fantastic. You could tell from just watching the games that they are a great bunch of boys and there is a good team spirit.

“The club have been doing really well for a number of seasons now and also with the manager choosing to stay it must have been a really big boost for everyone here.

“The manager’s decision to stay was a factor in me choosing to come here. I have been in touch with him and I wanted to come and work under him.

“I can hopefully come here and kick start my career again.

“From my time in England, you learn a lot. I probably did not play as much as I would have liked but that is football for you. I just want to come up here and play as many games as I can. I am hopeful Aberdeen and the manager can get the best of out of me.

“I sort of came into football in a strange way. At the time I just had to deal with it and you just have to keep working hard. You have to keep believing in yourself. I managed to do well at Cowdenbeath and then Dundee and then the chance came up to go down south. It was an offer that was hard to turn down. The move did not quite turn out the way I wanted but hopefully I have learned from that and all I want to do now is concentrate on getting fit and getting my match sharpness back.

“Playing in Europe will be something new for me. I have never done that before. It is something as a player you always want to do. When you are young it is something you always think about doing. It is definitely something I am looking forward to.

“For me it is games that I need. I have not played as much as I would have liked in the past six months. I just need game time and hopefully my match sharpness will come back quickly. That is all I am focussing on at the moment.”
