Hamilton Accies Pre Match | Joe Lewis

27 February 2017

Joe Lewis was the player who previewed the Hamilton Accies game. The keeper has kept six clean sheets in nine matches and had 15 in total this season. On Saturday he was once again in great from and produced a couple of vital saves:

“It was nice to get involved in the game on Saturday. I had two or three saves. Things for me have been quite quiet but I am more than happy with that because it means we are defending well and organised at the back. We are pleased with the way things are going.

“The last two games have not been pretty to watch but it is about getting results. We are finding ways to win games.

“The manager has the knack of making great substitutions at the moment and credit to him for that.

“There is a lot of competition in the squad. There are boys disappointed that they are not starting but it is a credit to their professionalism that they are mentally ready to come on and make an impact. Everyone who has come on recently has contributed to a winning performance.

“Last time down there was a very frustrating night.

“It was probably one of our poorest performances this season and we will be looking to put that right and the way we are playing at the moment, we can be confident to do that.

“The performance last time wasn’t good enough. Credit to Hamilton, they came out and put us under pressure and worked extremely hard.

“I expect they will look to come out and get at us again tomorrow night. We need to be prepared for that.

“Over the last few months we have been able to overcome things like that, whether teams sit back or come at us.

“I think we’ve got a good variation in our game that we can deal with most things at the moment.”

“I don’t think there’s a danger of complacency in our squad.

“We take it game by game. The work-rate that we put in this season, and especially recently, and the energy we have got in the team, is fantastic.

“We will look to continue doing that at the start of the game, look to play with intensity and a high tempo, as we do every game.

“At the moment it is working, we are approaching games well and getting the right results.

“It’s easy to say ‘just do the same’ but we need to make sure we apply ourselves the same, prepare right, and I’m sure we will.

“Hopefully we can get a positive result.

“Every team has their own agenda at the moment and is fighting for something. We have to concentrate on ourselves and make sure we don’t take our foot off the pedal. We must approach the game with the right mindset and have a great work ethic.”
