Kenny Clubb | Best Volunteer in Schools Football

29 July 2016

Kenny Clubb has been recognised for his work in the community as he was presented with the Scottish FA North Region Best Volunteer in Schools Football award, during half-time at the FK Ventspils match, for his work with Culter Primary School.

The Scottish FA Grassroots Awards are sponsored by the Sunday Mail and McDonalds and aim to recognise and reward people across the country that make a difference to grassroots football in their local community.

Through his own initiative Kenny established a school team at Culter Primary School back in 2005 and after taking the squad from primary 3 through to primary 7, he started the initiative again. He is currently working with a primary 6 team that he has been coaching since they were in primary 2.

From the start Kenny has been more than just a volunteer coach, he is a member of the WDFFL, Hazelwood League and AFCCT Primary Schools Football committees.

Kenny always goes above and beyond the call of duty to provide a positive experience for his young players, from buying strips and training wear to cutting the grass and is always dedicating his time to ensure children have the opportunity to play football and develop, not only as young players but as young people.

Furthermore, Kenny has been extremely influential in the transition of the WDFFL and Hazelwood Leagues to AFCCT Primary Schools Football, he arranged for both sets of stakeholders to attend Pittodrie Stadium for a presentation on the Community Trust. Kenny has always remained loyal, consistent and professional in promoting and encouraging the AFCCT vision. The leading contribution from Kenny has been his support to producing AFCCT Primary Schools Football Fixtures for over 2000 children. Logistically the fixtures are extremely challenging, but Kenny single-handedly produced an excel resource that formulates all of the fixtures in an efficient manner.

Scottish FA Community Coach Liam McGarry has worked alongside Kenny and is delighted for him to get this recognition for all his hard work.

“I first met Kenny back in 2014 and from the start it was evident he had the children’s best interests at heart when it came to just enjoying football. Working closely with Kenny it amazed me to hear of the other things that he somehow manages to find time to do, from running fund raising events and team socials to holding annual prize giving’s, he really is an inspiration and an asset to his community.”

The impact Kenny has made on so many people’s lives within his local community is truly admirable.
