Adam Rooney on RedTV

28 June 2016

Adam Rooney spoke to RedTV after the pre-season game at Brechin on Sunday:

“We have had three pre-season games and they have gone well. It was important the lads got as many minutes as they could into their legs before going into the game on Thursday night. Everyone is looking forward to Thursday now and our fitness is good.

“Thankfully I have not had any problems, nothing so far, after being out for so long at the end of last season. So hopefully that is behind me now and won’t be repeated again. I think it was the longest I have been out injured during my career. I am feeling good, fit and hopefully will continue to get sharper in the coming days.

“Jayden Stockley has settled in quickly and has done well in the games. He’s a big lad, he’s dangerous in the air and takes up good positions in the box as well. Against Brechin he knocked a couple of great balls down and unfortunately nobody has got on the end of them. That will change once we build up an understanding with him. He’s looked well, settled in early, all the new signings have so everything is looking positive.”

“It’s a good group of lads here and we make sure that anyone coming in the door is well looked after. It was important they settled in early. Amongst them there were a couple of good singers this week doing their initiation songs!

“Last season I failed to score in Europe but the season before I got six. Hopefully I can score six again this year! Obviously I was disappointed not to add to my tally last year, but hopefully I can get off the mark on Thursday.

“I don’t know much about Fola Esch but I am sure over the next few days we will get to know them better by watching a lot of videos and through the Gaffer’s reports. We will have what we need to know about them and then the important thing is we look after our own performance.

“The lads are looking forward to it. As I say we’ve brought in a few who have all settled well. Everyone is looking fit and sharp and probably even more so than last year when we came back. We did excellent at the start of last season so if we can improve on that we will be doing very well, but we are all raring to go and can’t wait for Thursday now!”
