Rooney | "I wanted to hit 20 goals before the end of the season"

30 April 2016

ADAM ROONEY

For the second season in a row Adam Rooney has hit the 20 goal mark. The striker reached on the tally on his 100th appearance for the Dons. In his post-match press conference Adam started by giving an update on his injury situation:

“I just felt a little bit of cramp in my leg, where I got the injury so I’m not sure if it’s just cramp or if I’ve done more damage to the injury.

“Its early days. We’ll see how it settles down overnight. Hopefully we’ll have a clearer picture tomorrow.

“If I’ve re-done it, that’s my season over.

“It’s obviously nice to get back and hit 20 goals, I wanted to hit 20 before the end of the season and thankfully I’ve done it today.

“I would hope I can get back and get a couple more before the end of the season. But as I’ve said, I don’t know yet.

“I’ve never really had a serious injury before. I did my ligaments when I was 17 and I was out for 6 weeks but I wasn’t really involved in the first team at the time.

“A lot of the boys suffer a lot more than me so I can’t be too down. It was good to get back and get the win today.

“At worst, we wanted to finish second this year. We know Hearts are a good team and would put in a good challenge after coming in last year. We always felt confident that we had enough in the squad to definitely do that at the least.

“Unfortunately, we weren’t able to push Celtic closer.”

On next week’s match against Celtic:

“We just have to try and win our last three games now, and try and get as many points on the board as we can.

“The gaffer won’t let us sit back and relax.

“We go there next week to try and take three points, and hopefully ruin their day a bit.”
