Shay Logan dons his tartan for Kiltwalk and AFC Community Trust

12 February 2015

Aberdeen star Shay Logan donned his kilt and joined forces with Donny the Sheep today (Feb 10th) to call on all Dons fans to sign up to 2015’s Aberdeen Kiltwalk.

It is hoped an Aberdeen FC Community Trust team of 1000 or more Walkers will take part in the event this June to raise funds for local children’s charities, causes and initiatives, including those organised by AFC’s partner charity, Aberdeen FC Community Trust.

And Aberdeen Football Club and Aberdeen FC Community Trust are offering a unique opportunity to the first 50 fans to sign up – a chance to parade on the pitch in front of the fans at a Pittodrie home game.

Aberdeen FC defender Shay Logan urged Dons fans to dig out their walking boots for this worthy cause. “The Red Army are famous for their backing of Aberdeen FC and I have no doubt they will turn out in their numbers to show their support for this fantastic event. It’s important we all play our part in helping to improve the lives of local youngsters.”

This year’s Aberdeen Kiltwalk will take place on June 7th.  It is hoped around 3000 to 4000 people will take part to raise funds for the seven charity partners and for causes nominated by the teams.

Aberdeen FC Community Trust’s Chief Executive Ally Prockter, who helped reveal Donny the Sheep as the Trust’s new mascot last week, said: “The Kiltwalk is a fantastic opportunity for all of us who support AFC to make a positive contribution to local children.  AFC Community Trust is committed to helping local communities, and this event is the perfect way to support our charity and other children’s charities. I encourage everyone to take part, have fun, and help raise as much money as possible to support children in the North East of Scotland. Donny the Sheep will be there on the day…come and join him and help make the Aberdeen Kiltwalk the biggest and reddest ever!!”

This year’s Aberdeen Kiltwalk route will include Duthie Park, the scenic Deeside Way, Banchory and Potrach Green.

Carey McEvoy, The Kiltwalk Founder and CEO said: “I am delighted Aberdeen FC Community Trust and Aberdeen Football Club are working together to support The Kiltwalk in this way.

“I know how passionate and dedicated the Aberdeen support is so I have no doubt they will rally behind their team and sign up for the Aberdeen Kiltwalk, especially as a percentage of the money raised will help fund Aberdeen FC Community Trust’s initiatives for children and young people.

“I am greatly looking forward to seeing the Red Army out in force at the start line, bringing a party atmosphere with them as always.”

Walkers can chose between the 26 mile Full Walk for everyone over 13 years-old and an eight mile Wee Walk which is open to anyone over 10 years of age.

Registration prices are £25 for the Full Walk and £10 or £5 for the Wee Walk.
