Quotes from the Press Room

The manager gives his reaction to the 1-0 victory over Partick Thistle

“It was a good win. We knew the importance of bouncing back, the boys always bounce back after a defeat, it has always been the way. We have played better and not won games however I did feel we deserved to win today on chances created. We passed up a number of opportunities especially in the first half and then Gallacher has made a top save from Rooney’s header. He always seems to make three or four top saves when he plays against us.

“Whist the game is 1-0 a good team like Thistle will always push you back. We said to the boys at half time there would be spells when they would put us under pressure and we have to have the confidence and determination to keep them out. We have done that but I thought we could have had more of a threat going forward in the second half. Getting that second goal would have made things a lot easier for ourselves.

“All in all, coming here and getting a clear sheet against a good Thistle team, a Thistle team who look better than they were last season. All the players were quite down after the Celtic game so it was important we found a way to win this afternoon.

“Our keeper has not had a save to make, saying that, they did have a couple of headers they could have done better with from crosses in the second half so it was not a perfect performance.

“We were not at our best but we found a way to win.

“We were missing a few players and had to play guys out of position.

“Barry Robson took a bang in training and was ruled out yesterday morning. We were a bit light for midfielders which was not ideal.

“I must give special mention to Andrew Considine who did very well at right back and Adam Rooney who was a left winger at times. Even coming off that side he was a goal threat.

“Ryan Jack also did a great job. He was playing alongside two attacking players whose natural instincts are to go forward. Ryan controlled the game for us in the middle of the park.

“The win was the most important thing, but also keeping us up near the teams at the top of the table was also important. We are two points better off than we were at this stage last year which might surprise some people.

“There is still room for improvement and we will work hard to find that improvement as we go along.”
