Dons defender to be honoured with testimonial year

09 October 2014

Aberdeen Football Club has announced it is honouring stalwart Andrew Considine with a testimonial year to mark a decade of loyal first team service.

The defender will take centre stage in early November as the programme of events kicks-off in style with a dinner, and what promises to be a night to remember.

Pittodrie idols Theo Snelders and Paul Mason, team-mates in the 1989/90 cup double winning season, will be the guest speakers at a glittering testimonial dinner at the Marcliffe at Pitfodels on November 10. Impressionist Paul Reid will also be entertaining guests, with Radio Scotland’s Richard Gordon, an avid Dons fan, compering the evening.

The dinner is the first of a series of high profile dates, with a glamorous friendly at Pittodrie also among the highlights.

A Banchory boy and a product of the Aberdeen FC youth academy, Andrew has made over 200 appearances for the Dons since making his professional debut in May 2004. A powerful defender who has featured for the club in both a left-back and central defensive role, the 27-year-old was deservedly named AFC player of the year in the 2011/12 season, a season during which he was also club captain.

Now in his 12th season at Pittodrie, Andrew is looking forward to the campaign ahead. He said: “It is exciting for myself, it is exciting for my family. I am very fortunate to have been at this club for all these years. I just want things to go well on the pitch so that 2014/15 is a memorable year for myself and everyone connected with AFC.”

The Andrew Considine Testimonial Committee, led by Chairman Bruce Webster and comprising prominent local businessmen Barry Duncan (CNR International), Jim Stewart (RAM Tubulars), Trevor Mutch (R Davidson) and Scott Milne (Qinterra AS), is delighted to be leading the tributes to Andrew.

Bruce Webster said: “As a committee it is our pleasure to work with Andrew in his testimonial year.  He is a true testament to the fantastic youth policy at AFC – already making over 200 appearances at the age of just 27, for a club which he has supported since he was a youngster.

“We look forward to welcoming the support of Dons fans and the business community throughout the season as we honour a player who has steadfastly and consistently given his all for the reds.”

An official golf day is planned and the testimonial match is being scheduled for early 2015. The year of events will be launched with the November 10 dinner at the Marcliffe at Pitfodels, for which a limited number of tables, are still available.
