The manager gave his reaction to the media after The Dons defeated Dundee 3-2 at Dens Park

from PA Sport

Derek McInnes heaped praise on his side after watching them dig deep to overcome a spirited Dundee side at Dens Park.

The Dons won 3-2 in the end thanks to David Goodwillie's 63rd-minute header to keep their fine run of recent form going and move them to within three points of league leaders Dundee United.

And McInnes said: “We're pleased with the three points. We're delighted with the players the way they dug in.

“We showed quality at times and enough determination to get that result which was all important to us in the end.

“I thought we managed the game far better at 3-2 on the back of the other night against St Mirren.

“We saw the game out well and they had very little opportunities once they'd equalised.

“We scored a brilliant winning goal through David from Shay Logan's cross and I thought it was a deserved three points overall.

“It was tight and it was hard game as expected as Dundee have a good team and good bit of know-how about them.

“It was a real good contest and we're delighted to send our 3,500 supporters home happy especially after Tuesday night.

“It's always good to go into an international break with a win because two weeks is a long time left on a negative result.

“We've been on the outside looking in up until today which wasn't a great concern, but we would rather be up there in the thick of things.”

Meanwhile, Dundee manager Paul Hartley felt poor defending meant his side suffered a fourth-straight defeat.

Hartley said: “Aberdeen are an excellent side.

“We're happy with how we played but not with the result and the way we conceded the goals.

“We gave them them too much room for the winning goal and that's something which is disappointing.

“We spoke about that before the game so it's frustrating from that point of view.”
