Aberdeen have only played Hamilton Accies on two previous occasions in the League Cup.

Back in season 1978.79 when the ties were played over two legs, the Dons won 1-0 on 4rth Oct 1978 with a goal from Ian Scanlon to take back to Pittodrie for the second leg.

A week later Hamilton shocked Aberdeen by taking the lead after just 60 seconds to level the tie on aggregate.

After that the Dons stepped up the pace and eventually dominated the Accies with five first half goals. The eventual 7-1 score line did not flatter the Dons. Joe Harper scored four in the Dons rout.
