Youth Advanced Academy Coaching

23 September 2014

Aberdeen FC’s Junior Academy launched a new Advanced Academy Coaching initiative this week. The sessions, that will feature as part of the Academy’s coaching programme will take place every 5-6 weeks and offer a selected few players the chance to be coached by Head of Junior Academy, Gavin Levey and special guests.

The first of the season’s sessions took place on Monday evening with a specific focus on striker movement and finishing on goal.  Four youngsters were chosen to be part of the first session, with the chance to learn from Aberdeen FC and Scotland Youth International Striker, Scott Wright.

Academy graduate, Scott Wright who turned 17 last month has already featured in the Europa League and Scotland 17s & Scotland 19s teams this season, was delighted to be the first guest along to help pass on his knowledge to the young academy players.  Scott said, ‘It’s great to come back and help at the young age groups where I started out myself.  It’s been brilliant to see how much potential some of the boys have shown tonight and how comfortable they are at shooting with both feet’.

Finlay Neat, Nimi Faleye, Ryan Duncan and Andy Paterson made up the Advanced Academy coaching group and were tested against Under 20s goalkeeper Robbie Mutch, who also graduated from the club’s Academy.

Gavin Levey, Head of Junior Academy, shared his thoughts on the new initiative, ‘We are always looking for ways to challenge the young players further.  I feel this is a great incentive for all players to strive towards, and rewards those who have performed at the very highest level consistently so far this season.  The sessions are very individual based to work on their technique, which allowed for a young 8 year old to go through the same session as one of our Under 12s players.  Both Scott and Robbie were excellent with the boys and it’s great to have them back at the age groups where they started 6-7 years ago’.
