League Cup defence begins at home to Livingston

27 August 2014

The draw for the third round of the Scottish League Cup was made at Pittodrie on Wednesday afternoon by Aberdeen legend Joe Harper and Dougie Henderson, who is involved in the Football Fans in Training programme at the club.

The full Scottish League Cup third-round draw:

Dundee United v Dundee
Falkirk v Rangers or Inverness Caledonian Thistle
Ross County v Hibernian
Kilmarnock v St Johnstone
Aberdeen v Livingston
Partick Thistle v St Mirren
Celtic v Heart of Midlothian
Hamilton Academical v Motherwell

Ties to be played on September 23/24

Russell Anderson represented the club at the draw. After the balls were pulled out he spoke to REDTV.

“First and foremost I am happy with the home draw.

“It will be a difficult game though. We will not be complacent t in anyway. You only need to remember our first game last season in the competition, when Alloa took us to penalties at Pittodrie.

“Livingston will be a good test for us but when the game comes around we will have done our homework on them and we will be fully prepared and ready to go.

“I don’t see why we can’t go on a run in League Cup this season. We have the ability to do it. It is however a long way to get to a cup final and to win it. We realised that last season when we had to play some very difficult games over the course of the run. As well as Alloa, the Falkirk and Motherwell away games were very tough fixtures, before we even got to the semi-final.

“This is the first step in what we hope will be another good cup campaign for us but as I say we cannot be complacent in anyway. If you start looking further ahead and looking towards the next round, that is when you come a cropper.
