Inverurie Locos 1 Aberdeen 3

26 July 2014

A strong Dons eleven enjoyed a Harlaw Park victory over Inverurie Locos in brilliant sunshine in front of a good turnout for Neil McLean’s testimonial.

After 11 minutes David Goodwillie chipped home keeper Andy Reid only to see the ball come back off the crossbar and nine minutes later there was a shock for the Pittodrie side when the Highland League club took the lead when a mistake by Scott McKenna allowed Kenny Coull the space to hook the ball over Scott Brown.

Ten minutes later it was all square when skipper for the day Nicky Low was brought down inside the area. There were no complaints from the home players and Nicky himself stepped up to send Reid the wrong way.

Locos themselves were awarded a spot kick in the 38th minute when Joe Shaughnessy was harshly adjudged to have pushed Dean Donaldson. However, justice was perhaps served when Brown brilliantly saved Donaldson's effort.

The Dons were on top for the majority of the second period and were rewarded with twelve minutes remaining when substitute Declan McManus fired high into the net from close range before Cammy Smith completed the scoring in 84 minutes knocking the ball into the empty net with the home defence appealing for offside.
