n a friendly match this evening an Aberdeen XI went down 1-0 to Peterhead at a foggy Balmoor. Former Don Rory McAllister scored an early goal and although the young Dons dominated possession for much of the game they could not find any way past Jim McInally's well organised side. New signing Jeffery Monakana played his first game in an Aberdeen shirt and he can be pleased with his evening's work.

For this training match the Dons lined up with Rogers in goal, Murray at right back, McKenna at left back and with Shaughnessy and Storie in central defence. In midfield in was Wright, Masson, Low and Monakana with Shankland and McManus up front.

As early as the third minute the home side took the lead. And it was an excellent goal as well. Jordon Brown did well to set up Rory McAllister who used his strength to hold the ball up and then he showed a nice touch to step inside his marker before curling a delightful shot past Rogers.

The Dons responded well to the loss of the goal and Shankland forced Jarvie into a good save. On 20 minutes the first real showing from Jeff Monakana, he produced a good run and cross which went across the edge of the box and found Wright but he tried to work the ball back inside and the chance was lost. A minute later a ball over the top set McAllister free, although he did look just offside. He ran in on goal but just when it looked like he would shoot, in stepped inside and Storie was able to recover the situation.

On 27 minutes Brown forced Rogers into a good save after his shot from the edge of the area was deflected. And apart from one other half chance for McAllister who used his strength to back his way into the box, that was all the action in the first 45. It was a very lively first half played at a good pace.

Peterhead v Aberdeen XIAt half time Campanile came on Shankland. Marcus went to right back, Storie went into midfield and Low was pushed further forward. Aberdeen started the second half strongly and on 47 minutes McManus flashed a shot just past. On 55 minutes a great run by Scott Wright, when he beat about five players, but in the end he just ran out of room and the ball ran behind for a goal kick. Aberdeen for the first time in the game were building some sustained pressure and on 58 minutes McManus fired a first time shot just over. Then on 62 minutes a great move with some lonely one touch passing from the young Dons gave another opportunity to McManus but his shot was too close to Jarvie. Then on 66 minutes from corner the ball fell to McKenna on the six yard line. His acrobatic effort appeared to be going in but Jarvie made a very good save and then from the rebound the keeper got there just ahead of Low.

On 67 minutes a double change: Nicky Low and Craig Murray came off and Michael Rose and Kieran Gibbons came on. A minute the Dons really should have scored. McManus broke free and was one on one with the keeper. He was at a tight angle so push the ball across the face of goal but his cross was just too strong for Scott Wright who came agonisingly close to getting a touch.

After that the game lost its way a bit. Aberdeen had a lot of the ball but credit to Peterhead who defended well. The young Dons could find no way through. The experienced Brian Gilfillan did a very good job in midfield of keeping the shape of the side, and even when their legs went near the end, there were few spaces for the Dons to exploit.

On 82 minutes Brown found McAllister with a great pass but a tired looking striker tried to chip Rogers and got it all wrong. On 83 minutes Jeff Monakana came off and was replaced by Cem Felek. The Dons final chance saw a low Storie shot palmed away.
