FC Groningen arrive in Aberdeen

16 July 2014

Our Europa League opponents, FC Groningen arrived in Aberdeen this lunchtime before making their way to Pittodrie in the evening, where manager Erwin van de Looi spoke to the media before taking training on the pitch.

“We are glad to be here tonight, in Aberdeen. It’s the result of a year of hard work, last season. It’s also nice to be here in Aberdeen because this gives us the right Europa League feeling. That’s because we play against strong opponents with a good team, in a stadium which may be full so that’s the right atmosphere we want for a European game.

“We realise it will be a tough game for us especially because it’s early in the season but we are ready for it, we are up for it and we are looking forward to it. We watched some matches of Aberdeen- the two matches against Riga- and we watch some games from the end of the last season. So we know the team of Aberdeen, it’s a good team, a well organised team with some good players and a clear idea of how they want to play and they have a good spirit.

“So it will be a tough match for us tomorrow and we have to be at our best to get a result here and that’s what we want.”
