Mark Reynolds On Redtv

defender on his new deal

As soon as he had signed his new contract this morning, Mark Reynolds spoke to RedTV:

“I am very happy to sign the contract extension.

“I have made no secret of the fact I am enjoying my football here. I am enjoying life on and off the park and my family are very settled in the city. When the gaffer came and offered me a year extension I was more than happy to sign it.

“I was a little bit surprised.

“When you have three and a half years left on your current contract you don’t expect to get anything on top of it. I think the manager wants to put out a statement of intent and tell people that he is wanting to build something here. He is saying that Aberdeen is a big club that wants to challenge and be in cup finals and to do that the club needs to keep the best players. It is nice the manager has put that faith in me. It means a lot that he wants me to be here and to build a team that I am part of.

“Sometimes in life you come across something that just fits.

“After going down to Sheffield and not playing and not enjoying my football I realise how important it is to be happy. That is the most important thing. When you are not happy at work that then affects your home life as well.

“Since I have come up here everything has gone well. Since I walked through the players’ entrance door on day one I have enjoyed my football. It is nice we are now starting to enjoy a little bit of success and hopefully when we look back on the season it will be one to remember.

“I think I am close to playing the best football of my career. It is always nice playing in a team that is doing well. They say that when a defender is playing well you should not really notice or hear about them. It is good that we can just go quietly along and let the boys up top score all the goals and get all the headlines. If things continue like that for the rest of the season we will be doing ok.

“I think by the time I finish this contract I will be nearing the end of my career! Seriously though, I would be quite happy to finish my career at Aberdeen. As I say I am enjoying my football here, I am enjoying living here and my family love life here.”
