Low scoring affair at Pittodrie

Aberdeen defeated Ross County by a goal to nil at Pittodrie this afternoon? a brilliant Nicky Low free kick in only the 2nd minute was enough to give the Dons a deserved victory. Nicky has had to wait patiently in recent years for his chance but he is a very talented player and a hugely popular figure in the dressing room and everyone at the club was delighted for him today.

The Dons played some excellent football at times and should have won this game more comfortably. 10 minutes after the goal the reds were awarded a penalty when Pawlett was brought down in the box. Scott Vernon stepped up to take the kick but saw it saved by Michael Fraser. Vernon then went close again whilst Jonny Hayes was unlucky not to be awarded another penalty. Scott Boyd nearly put the ball through his own net in first half injury time but Fraser again rescued the situation for County.

Aberdeen continued to dominate and play some good football in the second half but with County having so many men behind the ball they were limited to long range efforts and when the ball did make its way into the area the Dons failed to find a red shirt. The visitors though failed to cause any problems and in the end the Dons ran out comfortable winners. Jamie Langfield picked up clean sheet number 96 of his career – beating the old SPL record held by Allan McGregor.

Calvin Zola was injured so missed out but he should be back for the Dundee United game.
