AFC in the Community join up with StreetSport initiative

StreetSport is a diversionary tactics initiative based at RGU:SPORT (Robert Gordon University) in Aberdeen, Scotland.

StreetSport is a partnership approach between RGU, the Denis Law Legacy Trust, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue, Aberdeen City Council, the Scottish FA, Absafe, Aberdeen Sports Village, Greys School of Art and AFC in the Community. AFC Community Coaches will be visiting some of the venues involved during the month of July.

StreeSport’s goal is to reduce the number of instances of youth crime and anti-social behaviour by promoting health and wellbeing and encouraging inclusivity through sport, physical activity and creative endeavour.

Over 3,000 young people now regularly participate on an annual basis in 12 different locations around the city of Aberdeen. In some instances StreetSport has been seen to reduce complaints of youth anti-social behaviour in parts of the city by up to 66%.
