Aberdeen Football Club has welcomed the Scottish Football League’s positive outcome from today’s meeting to move forward the league reconstruction proposals.

Duncan Fraser Aberdeen FC Chief Executive and a member of the working party responsible for developing league reconstruction commented. “Throughout the last four months a massive amount of time and commitment has been shown by all those concerned in moving this process forward. The SFA, SPL and SFL executives deserve credit for helping us get to this stage. However, ultimately it is the clubs that have had to come together for the sake of Scottish football going forward. The game is in need of radical change and this is, what I truly hope, the first major step to achieve that change.

“Throughout the meetings I have attended with various clubs representing all divisions, I detected an absolute desire to do the right thing for the game.

“Aberdeen Football Club has, and I hope, will continue to play a major role in working with all those committed to a brighter future for Scottish football. The key next stages are to turn the positive approach adopted by clubs this week into an action plan to make this happen for the start of season 2013/14. Although the need to engage broadcasters and sponsors is critical, it is vital now as we all move forward fans are informed and engaged in the process as we need everyone to get behind the game we all love”.
