Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink stole a last minute winner to deny the Dons a deserved point at Parkhead this afternoon, when at one point we were going to leave with all three. After falling behind to an early JVOH goal, substitute Charlie Mulgrew grabbed a superb double to put the Dons ahead before MacDonald and Vennegoor of Hesselink fired home for Celtic. In the final seconds Darren Mackie was put clear but his shot went agonisingly wide. The Dons were well and truly robbed and no Aberdeen player deserved to be on the losing side. This was an outstanding performance.

Aberdeen made four changes from the side which crashed out of the League Cup on Wednesday. Jamie Langfield, Stuart Duff, Lee Mair and Derek Young all come in, with Bertrand Bossu, Charlie Mulgrew, Gary McDonald and Sone Aluko dropping on to the bench.

Aberdeen’s plans to frustrate the home side were dealt a blow on the quarter of an hour. A mix up between Foster and Kerr after a Samaras run, left it open for Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink to put the hoops in front.

Aberdeen had a half chance straight away but Severin couldn’t direct his shot from the edge of the box on target.

The Dons had reacted well after falling behind Diamond was unlucky to see a header cleared off the line from a Young corner, and Lee Miller hooked the ball back in but Celtic escaped with a goal kick.

Skipper Scott Severin sustained an injury and was replaced by Charlie Mulgrew.

The Dons were now looking like they could force an equaliser but some quick football from Celtic gave Nakamura a chance to drive into the box but Lee Mair was on hand to deny the Japanese international.

Half Time

Celtic 1 – 0 Aberdeen

Aberdeen started the second half well. Charlie Mulgrew whipped in a great free kick which Arthur Boruc missed completely but unfortunately no one got on the end of it.

Aberdeen got what they deserved on 55 minutes when Mulgrew finished off a fantastic passing move. Starting deep in their own half, the Dons began to look like the classic Dutch side of the seventies, notching up over 15 passes before Charlie Mulgrew got on the end of Hodgkiss’ cross to score against his old club.

Things got even better 10 minutes later when the Dons won a free kick at the edge of the Celtic box. Charlie Mulgrew stepped up and curled it past a helpless Boruc.

Celtic then went for broke and threw on Aiden McGeady and Scott MacDonald as they chassed for an equaliser.

It paid off with only ten minutes remaining when Scott Macdonald fired home the equaliser after a McGeady cross.

Just as it looked like the Dons were on the verge of holding on for a point, some poor passing in injury time let Aiden McGeady loose and his cross broke to Vennegoor of Hesselink to wrap up the game.

The Drama wasn’t over yet. Four minutes into injury time, substitute Sone Aluko threaded a delightful through ball to Mackie, but the striker could only poke his effort wide of the Celtic goal.
