"I thought it was a typical cup tie. We dominated the first half and got a deserved goal. We maybe could have added a second. Even in the second half when they came more into it I still thought we were looking comfortable then they get a penalty out of nothing and the game changes.

"I thought the penalty was extremely harsh, extremely harsh on big Youl. It was not a pretty game and we know we did not play well but the most important thing is that we got the win and we are in the next round.

"Hopefully that win will be able to make us move on from what has happened before. I was saying to the boys in the dressing room when I first came into the team there was the game against Queens Park in The league Cup down there and obviously the semi final against Queen of the South, then there was Dunfermline and Raith Rovers and East Fife this season so as a club we have been threw a few over the years so we are due a bit of luck in the cups. Hopefully that can kick us on and maybe we can get back to Hampden.

"I scored two goals at Hampden against Queens Park in 2008 but that goal tonight was definitely better!

"I signalled for Arnie to play the ball to the back post and it was a fantastic ball and I have just nodded it in at the back post. I was just delighted to have scored. It did not matter who scored we were all ecstatic! I knew it was the last few seconds so it was going to be the winner. The boys were looking a bit tired and if any team was going to score it looked like them. You also don't know what is going to happen in extra time and penalties.

"We showed a real strength of character tonight. It was real backs to the wall at time. In the second half they were launching it forward and we were feeding off scraps. We could not get out of our own box at times.

"As a team we battled away. I feel we have been doing that the last couple of games. It is well documented that we have got 9 or 10 players out with injury, guys who would be playing in the team, so I think we are doing really well and tonight was another good result.

"The travelling support again tonight was brilliant. We love them to bits. Without them we might not have got the result tonight. They get right behind the team throughout, even when things were going against us.

"We all want to get to Hampden. We went out early on against East Fife in the league cup so hopefully we can do it in the Scottish Cup. There are a lot of the boys who have not played at Hampden and hardly anyone has played in a final so everyone is desperate to get there and get there as a club. The two semi finals last year were enjoyable days but it is horrible after the game if you have been beat. Hopefully we can go a stage further this year but we have still to get past Motherwell in the next round which is going to be a really tough game but it a game we can now look forward to.

We now though have to concentrate on the SPL. I thought we were a bit unlucky not to get a win at Easter Road. We really need to win on Sunday to catch up on those above us. Motherwell are quite a bit ahead of us. We have been out of the top six for a few years now and it is not good enough for a club like Aberdeen. We all know that. Once we get all the boys back fit again we have enough quality and a very strong squad. The future looks bright.
